Chimes Virginia

Chimes Virginia opened in 1994 to provide residential services in the northern counties of the state, both by operating supervised group homes in the community and by offering in-home support for people who lived with their families. It also established contacts with Chimes DC and other agencies to find positions for workers with disabilities. In addition, Chimes Virginia assumed responsibility over a small group of residences for people with severe disabilities in the Washington suburbs of Maryland.

This past year the agency opened its seventh group home in Virginia, with 24-hour staffing for five people. At the same time, it consolidated six smaller offices into a larger office complex in Fairfax, providing additional administrative and support services areas.

Chimes Virginia strongly believes in the corporate values of the Chimes Family of Services. One example is its commitment to choices for the people it serves, as witnessed by the new day program. Another example is the emphasis on employee retention and career development, where three staff members teach courses in the LEAD program. Chief Operating Officer Sue Grigsby says, "We want to foster teamwork within Chimes Virginia and within the larger organization. We want to make corporate values come off the paper and come alive for our staff and the people we serve."
