Chimes Delaware
Chimes Delaware was established in 1994, when the state asked The Chimes, Inc., to assume responsibility for people with severe disabilities in New Castle County who were previously served by another agency. Today, Chimes Delaware operates residential and vocational programs throughout the state in New Castle, Kent, and Sussex counties, providing services for individuals with a broad range of developmental disabilities, including specializations in supporting people with autism, dual diagnosis, and Prader Willi syndrome, a condition marked by uncontrollable eating.
Because many of the people Chimes Delaware serves often have multiple severe disabilities, they may need special pre-vocational programs before they can undertake job training. They may also need to develop basic skills in hygiene, personal care, mobility, and socialization. In addition, the agency offers the following programs, services, and supports: employment opportunities through the work centers, supported employment, competitive employment, and government contracts; residential options including apartments and homes; behavioral and health services, case management, sensory and nutrition services; physical therapy, and speech/language services by referral.
